Quilted Fields is inspired by the patchwork of canola, barley and wheat fields that make up rural Alberta. I am instantly reminded of home by this painting, as the birds-eye-view perspective brings me back to all of those times that I looked out of a plane window as we began our ascent down to the Calgary airport. Using a spring-inspired colour-palette, this painting illustrates polka dot, floral, scalloped and windowpane plaid patterns. I kept the patterns uncomplicated because I wanted them the reflect homemade quilts, as well as a simpler time when Albertan cities were much smaller, and fields were much larger.
